Coaching Best Practice
Coaching is a process that enables individuals to achieve their full potential. The primary objectives of our highly experienced “best practice” coaches are to:
- Support the individual in setting appropriate goals and assessing progress in relation to these goals
- Encourage a commitment to action and the development of lasting personal growth and change
- Facilitate the exploration of needs, motivations, aspirations, skills and thought processes to assist the individual in making real, lasting change
- Use questioning techniques to facilitate the individual’s own thought processes in order to identify solutions and actions of his/her own choosing
- Observe, listen and ask questions to understand the individual’s situation
- Apply different tools and techniques – may include tutoring, facilitating and counselling
- Maintain unconditional positive regard for the individual, which means that the coach is at all times supportive and non-judgemental of the individual, his/her views, lifestyle and aspirations
- Encourage individuals to continually improve competencies and to develop new relationships where necessary to achieve their goals
- Ensure that the individual develops his/her personal competencies and does not become overly dependent on the coach
- Work within their areas of personal competence and possess qualifications and experience in the areas in which the coaching is offered
- Manage the relationship to ensure the individual receives the appropriate level of input and support, and that the coaching is neither too short, nor too long
- Evaluate the outcomes of the process, using objective measures wherever possible, to ensure the relationship is successful and the individual is achieving his/her personal goals
